Species in ALL CAPS can be classified into three categories in the state of Iowa: 1) UNRECORDED, ACCIDENTAL or Casual; 2) A RARE but regular species; or 3) record early or late date or unusual for time of year. EAST:
JOHNSON COUNTY:
3 SABINES GULLS were seen from the Highway 965 bridge looking west at Coralville Reservoir on the 12th. Another one was seen from Sandy Beach.
A PLEGADIS IBIS was seen at the north arm of Lake McBride on the 14th.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen off Scales Point at Coralville Reservoir on the 14th. It was last seen on the 15th.
A SABINES GULL was seen on the north arm of Lake McBride on the 15th.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen along the Lake Macbride Trail near the bridge just outside of Solon on the 16th.
SOUTH CENTRAL:
MARION COUNTY:
3 SABINES GULLS were seen at Pinchey Bottoms on the 14th.
NORTHWEST:
KOSSUTH COUNTY:
A BLACK-NECKED STILT and an AMERICAN AVOCET were seen at Union Slough NWR on the 13th.
DICKINSON COUNTY:
An AMERICAN AVOCET and 252 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were seen at Little Swan Lake on the 14th.
