I completed the Breeding Bird Survey for the Tipton route today (Cedar County). Two of the better birds were an Upland Sandpiper and five Western Meadowlarks in a 3½ mile stretch. The habitat was soybean fields as far as the eye could see with very few trees, shrubs, edge habitat or even fence lines. Funny how you can find decent birds in some of the blandest habitat you can imagine.
