I drove up to Cone Marsh today hoping to see some shorebirds but the water level turned out to be quite high, covering almost all the desired habitat. I did find a Bairds Sandpiper and a few Pectorals in a large grassy puddle in a field, but otherwise struck out.

Question: is there a website or other resource where one can find out the water levels of this and other wetland areas? That could really help with planning best times to go.

I did get my FOY Indigo Bunting so the trip was not without its rewards, but pretty much whiffed on shorebirds.

I used to have a site for water levels bookmarked, but I'm not seeing it. I did find this that might be helpful:

https://waterdata.usgs.gov/state/Iowa/#dataTypes=00060

If the discharge is high in an area, that might be indicative.

Or there's always the NWS:    https://www.weather.gov/dvn/river_levels
