Reid and I met Diana Pesek and James Huntington early this a.m. and had a real treat as we saw a LOT of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (rough guess was about 20-30 birds, many less than the 75 that James saw just a few days ago). Other great birds around the trails on the south side of the park were quite a few Hermit Thrushes, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, White-throated and Fox Sparrows. Two Winter Wrens played hide and seek with us but called a couple of times to let us know they were there.
Good Birding!

We have merlins nesting in a nearby Norway Spruce, 1100 block of Church St., Goosetown, Iowa City.
