Dragonflies

Many birders have an interest in dragon flies.

Several days ago I encountered a swarm of Common Green darner dragonflies migrating. Others that I've met recently have seen these swarms and were curious but did not realize what they were seeing. A helpful link:

Two  days ago we drove through blocks of dragonflies an hour before sunset in Madrid. It was remarkable at ground level. I've seen Nighthawks and Flycatchers feasting on swarms up high numerous times as would be expected.  Why they were at ground level I don't know for sure but would suspect winds aloft or food source.

Thanks, Ken! They came through Granger late afternoon of the 9th; appeared to be feasting on gnats or mosquitoes. Lots of nighthawks overhead at the same time.
