Hi folks,
Thank you for the conversation about this trip. As the one of the planners and guides, let me try and clarify a few things:
The trip is February 7-10, 2020.
We have 4 scheduled stops along the way up to Sax-Zim Bog on day 1 (Friday, Feb 7)
1) Urbandale Target - first pickup spot (7:00AM)
2) Lowes in Ames - second pickup spot (8:00AM)
3) Petro Travel Center in Albert Lea, restroom/stretch your legs stop. We have had folks join us here when it was closer than the first two stops. (~10:30AM)
4) White Bear Lake (NE side of the Twin Cities) - lunch stop. We have also had folks join us here when it was closer than the first three stops.
All of these stops offer safe parking for cars to be left until our return home Monday afternoon/evening.
Who is this trip for? Birders, photographers, anyone who loves beautiful places, fun people, experiencing different places - and their spouses. (We've had many non-birding spouses come along and thoroughly enjoy themselves.)
We take a comfy coach bus that seats 56 people. We do not fill it up, allowing for plenty of space for folks and their gear. We typically get between 25-35 participants. 25 is our minimum, which we have not met yet - so get your registrations in! We need to
know by next Monday, Jan. 6 if we're going to have enough to make it a go. Get those registrations in!
Cost: For a shared hotel room, either with a spouse/friend/family member, or with another person of the same gender as you that is also looking for a roommate that I'd pair you up with, it is $475/person. If you'd like a hotel room to yourself, it is $690/person.
Here's what you get with your registration fee: 3 nights hotels, your seat on the comfy coach bus, refreshments on the bus, your professional naturalist guides, and 4 of your meals. What you would be responsible for: 6 meals, any bus driver tip, any souvenirs,
any donations you'd like to make to places we visit.
As you can see, it is a relatively inexpensive trip for what it is. That is thanks to Sac and Carroll County Conservation Boards sponsoring this event as a way to encourage folks to enjoy the outdoors. There are private companies offering similar trips for
much more money.
We are proud of this trip, as it is our 7th year in a row to be offering it, and hope you'll be able to join us. We have some folks that have gone every year and are currently signed up for this year, as well as many others that have been multiple times.
I am attaching a PDF copy of the registration form and our fun itinerary.
Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions
