Dear leaders of the Taiwanese American organizations,

Would you kindly forward the email to your members? As you are aware that CCP is ramping up its legal warfare against Taiwan. We need all hands on deck.

Thank you in advance for spreading the word.

URGENT ACTION!

Petition: Ask Your Senators to Support the Taiwan International Solidarity Act (S. 2995)!

On September 28, 2023, Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Mitt Romney (R-UT) introduced the Taiwan International Solidarity Act (S. 2995), which aims to counter China’s distortion of UNGA Resolution 2758, fabricated claim of sovereignty over Taiwan, and growing efforts to exclude Taiwan from international organizations.

While resolving the question of China’s representation in the UN, the 1971 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 2758 said nothing about Taiwan being “an integral part of China,” nor did it give the People’s Republic of China (PRC) government any right to represent Taiwan’s people internationally.

Unfortunately, the UNGA Res. 2758 is still widely misused by the PRC to “justify” its fictitious “One China principle,” aimed at suppressing Taiwan’s international status and space and eventually annexing Taiwan, even by force.

If passed into law, the Taiwan International Solidarity Act would help clarify that the UNGA Res. 2758 did not address the issues of Taiwan’s territorial sovereignty and international representation, nor did the resolution determine the relationship between the PRC and Taiwan.

This Act would also require the United States to more proactively challenge the PRC’s fabricated sovereignty claim over Taiwan, and encourage U.S. allies to oppose China’s efforts to undermine Taiwan’s international relations.

The bill also emphasizes that the U.S. “opposes any initiative that seeks to change Taiwan’s status without the consent of the [Taiwanese] people.”

On July 25, 2023, the House of Representatives unanimously passed an identical bill (H.R. 1176). The Senate should follow suit and swiftly pass this crucial legislation.

We therefore ask that you contact your Senators immediately, urging them to co-sponsor and support the Taiwan International Solidarity Act (S. 2995).

Let’s repeat the magic of getting the Taiwan Travel Act enacted!
