I thought it's Chiang who insisted on withdraw from UN disregarded from US's proposal to stay in UN using different name. His staff strongly suggested to accept US's plan but being refused by Chiang.

Of course Chiang was the emperor then who had the final say. Who else?  Amb. Shen was merely conveying Chiang's ridiculous order that the Han ROC could not coexist with the other real but alleged "bandit" Chinese nation. Chiang had NOT the slightest interest whatsoever in the Taiwanese people under his exploitation as a separate nation.

First of all if Chiang were to have compromised and stayed in the U.N. I doubt it would be allowed to use the name "Republic of China". It would have to be another name. But no matter what name it would have been better than now as an international outcast or orphan. Taiwan's sovereignty the way it existed then would have been preserved. The name and the substance of the political realities could be subject to change for the better later.
