I just ran across the following:

http://www.podzinger.com

Which appears to be a service that "transcribes" and makes a podcast "searchable."

I just signed-up for it myself and I can't yet report how it works but I immediately thought I should alert you all.

Looks interesting.

Best,

-Aldo

P.S. I've obviously fallen off the "tagging" wagon. But please don't read my silence as lack of interest. I continue
to monitor progress related to "structured tagging" and I think a few standards based technologies may be poised
to emerge on a large scale. When I see early signs of that happening I'll be sure to alert the list.

Hello Aldo

I just zinged about 6 of my pods and they all came up with no match
so I can't speak for it so far since all casts are fine.

Larry,

Did you register your podcast on Zing? And if so did you receive their confirmation email indicating that they've indexed your podcasts?

If the answer is "no" to either of those questions you should either register or wait a bit longer for their message.

If the answer is "yes" to both of those questions I'd appreciate it if you could reply to this so that we can learn from
your experience.

Thanks,

-Aldo

P.S. Based on the rate of new listing requests for Ipodder.org/Business I think it's fair to say that iTunes has pretty much killed iPodder.org (or at least it's on life support). I've read recently that iTunes has started to support OPML (export at least) so perhaps the death of iPodder.org isn't such a grave loss in the end?

I actually "registered" with this back in December, and to date still
have not received any information suggesting they've finished indexing
my podcasts. I have tested the service on a regular basis, even using
simple words from my podcasts, or simple "proper names", and nothing
is coming out -- from any of them. I think they are listing them
based on some hierarchical approach (like... expected popularity)
rather than in direct response to our requests for registration, but
obviously don't know what's really going on.

Brad,

Thanks for the info, I'll adjust my expectations accordingly.

-Aldo

P.S. I've been listening to your podcasts and particularly enjoyed
the piece about Tipu Ake ki te Ora....very interesting and informative.
Thank you.

Hi Aldo,

I have nothing but good things to say about Podzinger.
Registered about 3 to 4 week ago and it is working quite well.
I can search for the podcast by name but also by  what music I played,
or by  topic. The ToDay Betacast is not a big podcast.
so can assure you that this is not based on some popularity ranking.

I am also amazed that it seems to cope with my accent and audio
quality that at times is not very good.

Over all I find podzinger just great.

Aldo thank you for your great work.

Have a good day
Per

Per,

Thanks for your input. Now I'm not sure you to reconcile your
and Brad's experiences with Podzinger.

Any tricks Per? Would you don't mind informing the group how you
went about registering your podcast?

Thanks,

-Aldo

Well... I'll resubmit. Perhaps I was too early after I read about
this in the Wall Street Journal...

Thanks for the information...

And I'll look out for their confirmation email.

-Aldo

P.S. At risk of soundling like your "pr guy" I've really enjoyed your
recent podcast work on Stranova the piece on innovation and genetics
was very interesting particulary because I'm very interested in data
privacy and digital identity! Keep the good stuff coming ;-)

Hi All

Regarding the text search on Podzinger.

I am afraid I have no magic tricks to tell you I only followed the
prompts from the podzinger site.
I am using Castblaster software to produce the podcast.
It  looks like podzinger can find the music tracks Ok,
gets the time right but the fast forward to that particular track
or segment is a bit slow. Hey I think this is really good and can only get better with time.
Would be nice to be able to  ping the site and give the right info in some  tags with
the correct time?

Have a good weekend
Per
