Wait, what?
Going back ten years, Notacon has always been the middle weekend in
April, and Penguicon happens two weeks later. It's made for a fun
start to the season. Now Penguicon moves two weeks earlier, to overlap
Notacon's weekend, and forces us all to choose? Why?!?
For as long as I've been going to Penguicon, it's been trying to
convince the world that it has an honest-to-goodness tech track, no
really, not just a sci-fi con! Last year saw significant strides
toward that goal, but now it's competing with the midwest's best-
established tech con, and I don't see that ending well for anyone.
It's splitting the audience, which may not be a big deal (the events
are 160 miles apart, after all), but it's also splitting the potential
speakers, and that's likely to hurt Penguicon's fledgling tech track
quite a bit. I'll be curious to see how this shakes out.
Good luck, Penguicon, but mid-April is Notacon weekend. Sorry. I'll be
there in spirit.
