Summary

The Center for Ethics, Society, and Computing (ESC) is seeking a project coordinator to administer Center activities. The successful candidate will ensure that Center efforts related to researcher support, community-building, and other Center projects are all organized and conducted according to plan, in a timely manner, and within budget. The project coordinator will report to the Center co-directors. For more information about ESC, please visit our website: http://esc.umich.edu/

Responsibilities
  • Proactively develop a vibrant community of affiliated faculty, staff, advisors, visitors, and student researchers with diverse intellectual backgrounds.
  • Assist in public outreach efforts including communicating Center activities via press releases, social media, email campaigns, website content, brochures, and attending community events.
  • Assist in managing project budgets to ensure that Center activities are performed in accordance with standard practices, grant requirements, subcontracts and/or service agreements. Coordinate with staff in finance/grants offices.
  • Organize and schedule people or tasks, including developing realistic action plans that are sensitive to the availability of resources and time constraints.
  • Collaborate with other university staff on Center programming, including event planning and logistics.
  • Create comprehensive project plans, timelines, and progress reports. Track project performance related to short and long term goals.
  • May supervise student temporary employees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • Experience working with academic faculty or within an academic setting or similar setting.
  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Excel and Word) and experience using Google apps and Zoom.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team, and independently in a dynamic environment with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and communicate effectively; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • 2-4 years experience in project coordination.
  • An interest in ethics, society, and computing.
Work Schedule

Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required.  May occasionally require working during special events that occur after business hours and on weekends.

Work Locations

Requires travel to multiple on campus locations. May occasionally require travel to a special event location that occurs off campus.  This position will have space at North Quad, 105 S. State Street.  Some hybrid/remote work is available, at the discretion of the position’s supervisor and in accordance with UMSI’s remote work guidelines.

This position may work with and/or support systems that maintain or process sensitive institutional data as defined by university policy.  Successful candidates must comply with federal, state, and local law, and/or university policies or agreements that require the university to implement specific privacy and security safeguards, including but not limited to ITAR, EAR, HIPAA, FERPA, and FISMA.  This position is responsible for protecting data and information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion; and following applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files and release of data internally or externally to the University of Michigan.
