We are looking to hire a local software engineer. Our office is currently in Berkley, but will be moving in a few months to Ferndale to be close to i3.


BeagleBoard.org Foundation is a nonprofit that has been growing and educating the single-board computing community using open source software and hardware since 2008. The ideal candidate is passionate about open source electronics and education, interested in sharing the skills developed on-the-job of building embedded systems. This is an opportunity to influence the roadmap of the highly visible beagleboard.org brand and change the future of developing embedded systems, enabling more people to be creative with electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Writing clean, high-quality, maintainable software achieving specific goals
  • Work aggressively towards continuous improvement and development of open source software and hardware
  • Create and satisfy unit and initial acceptance tests
  • Identify obstacles and work with the team and developer community to overcome challenges
  • Be part of a self-organizing team
  • Actively participate in daily project meetings
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, and a team player
  • Be available to meet one night a week remotely with an international project team
  • Must work cross-functional across software/electrical/mechanical design, debug, production, support and community interaction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science (or related field)
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Expertise in Linux kernel driver development, shell scripting, and C programming
  • Experience in JavaScript, Python, Rust or other dynamic language programming
  • Basic electronics knowledge and hands-on experience with Arduino, CircuitPlayground or other rapid prototyping development tools
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone or other Linux-based single board computer
  • Basic mechanical design experience with motors, enclosures and materials like 80/20 aluminum, laser acrylics or other focused on rapid-prototyping and hobbyists

You will report directly to the President of the board who has extensive relevant experience.

BeagleBoard.org Foundation is a Michigan,USA-based 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation existing to provide education in and collaboration around the design and use of open-source software and hardware in embedded computing. BeagleBoard.org provides a forum for the owners and developers of open-source software and hardware to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience. The BeagleBoard.org community collaborates on the development of open source physical computing solutions including robotics, personal manufacturing tools like 3D printers and laser cutters, and other types of industrial and machine controls.
