Been searching for a few years now, and have yet to find anything suitable. What I'm looking for is a laptop backpack with LOTS of small part storage/organization/pockets.
I carry little large bulky items, outside of two laptops (currently a Thinkpad T400 14" and Fujitsu Lifebook P1510 9", roughly equivalent in size to the typical netbook) and the associated power bricks.
But i also carry an about a dozen USB thumb drives, several hard drives, cables, adapters, extra batteries for the cell phones, GPS, work keys, etc.
Seems whenever I need one of the smaller items, I spend a bunch of time digging through everything else, as much of it ends up in a big jumble in the large main storage.
Im currently using a Victorinox laptop backpack, and while it seems to be better than most, it really doesn't have enough small pockets for my liking.
Are there better options out there now?
Eric
That's not a half bad idea, and gave me another search idea - packs with the Molle webbing to custom create my own storage needs. Looking at 5.11 stuff now :D
Eric
While this is not a backpack, I highly recommend it.

I use the first one. It has lots of pockets and is very sturdy. I've
had it for about 5 years and really like it.

I carry their laptop bag + small MOLLE pouch attached to it for the
power brick and must-always-have-tools for my personal laptop. It
doesn't come with a shoulder strap, though. It does have attachment
points, so you can add your own.
Gotta love something that has a giant Velcro surface for a
holster/knife/etc on the inside of the case.
I have this one for the work stuff:

This holds an absolutely stupid amount of stuff, with internal and
external MOLLE loops, lots of little pockets in the front compartment,
and the divders are movable. I can put two laptops with power supplies,
a notebook, a small Cisco router, an external hard drive or two, all of
my tools and *still* have room left (and need a magnacart to wheel it
around :P ). It's also got a neat seatbelt loop to secure it in your
car. If I'm wheeling it around, I can attach the laptop bag to this
case via the front nylon straps (extra wide MOLLE loops are awesome)
The things are practically indestructible and 5.11 stands by their stuff.
A few folks that you and I know also have carried this:
http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Bags-Backpacks/Business-Tactical/Side-Trip-Briefcase.html
It comes highly recommended. Has a concealed sidearm compartment if
that's your sort of thing. :)
I have yet to kill one of these things, and I'm incredibly hard on cases
and bags.
