virtual machine hive distribution--need to change the ip address--how?

Hey All,

I don't expect any of you to know this, but maybe one of you knows someone who knows. ;-)

I'd like to set up the virtual-machine version of the core cells on our network, so I can hit it from other machines on our network.  My network guy tells me that means we have to be able to assign it a static ip address of our own choosing.  Attempts to do so result in a prompt for the root password, which we don't have, and isn't in the accompanying install guide.

How can I find out the root password?
