After a few attempts (and getting some help from some fellow sites -
thanks utsouthwestern!) we've successfully installed RC2. We're now
working on maintaining our C-level support by attempting to
demonstrate value through the tool. I'm anxious to hear back from
fellow users to learn how they've demonstrated use in the tool. With
limited current front-end workstation views (ontology, timeline,
workplace) what have people done to demonstrate value (how did you
sale it to the C-level)?

Thanks,

Brian

The sale to the C level is based on some or all of the following:

1. i2b2 provides a mechanism for ad-hoc analysis of patient data to identify quality improvement opportunities
2. i2b2 speeds identification of patient cohorts for medical research, including clinical trials
3. i2b2 speeds the entire process for obtaining patient data for clinical research by providing a central repository for all patient data
4. At sites where the same data warehouse is used for i2b2 and quality reporting, two critical needs are met with a single data repository (Morehouse and Umass both work in this mode).

Hope this helps.

Because the timeline is one of only a few views out of the box, I'm
assuming you're referring to this view with the below answers. Can
you give me a specific use case for the timeline applied to your
answer below? Using a specific disease (diabetes, for example) might
help me understand this better.

Thanks,

The timeline is just a demo view. I do not believe it scales well and it does not meet the requirements for de-identified data, so it would not be appropriate for the research uses. For quality, more extensive views are needed - or the data in the database can be used for quality reporting (which is what we do with it).

Your specific goals are critical here. You say "C" Level, but it is not clear whether you are talking about the Hospital or the Medical school or a research institution. It makes a huge difference in selling the i2b2.

If you want to talk about how we have helped gain approval for i2b2 rollout at the other sites we have worked with, we should talk off the list about it.

Best,
