From the Educator's Network for Social Justice:
Hello ENSJ members, please read this important information about Thursday's MPS board meeting.
Please Save the Date of Thursday, June 14 (previously scheduled for June 12) at 6:30 p.m. to attend and give testimony at an important School Board Hearing on Early Childhood Practices in Milwaukee Public Schools in the Central Office Auditorium at 5225 West Vliet Street.
In recent months parents, teachers, specialists, and principals have expressed concerns about practices in early childhood education (preschool-3rd grade) in MPS being developmentally inappropriate. Concerns such as large class size, implementation of the CLP (particularly the lack of curriculum integration), report cards, and MAP Testing have arisen. Both research and what early childhood teachers and experts know about best practice demonstrate the need for a critical review of these important instructional issues.
The School Board Committee on Innovation will be considering a resolution to implement an Early Childhood Taskforce to study these issues and make recommendations to the Board of Education. You can make your voice heard at the hearing on Thursday, June 14 by providing BD minutes of oral testimony, submitting written testimony and/or joining fellow parents, educators, and community members in the audience. We will meet 30 minutes prior to the hearing, at 6:00 p.m. at the MTEA to organize our testimony.
Please contact Jeff Baas or Amy Mizialko at 414-259-1990 or ba...@mtea.weac.org for more information.
