The Chicago Homeless Youth Taskforce and the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) invite you and your colleagues to join us for a

Education Cross-Training for Youth Workers, High School Educators, and Advocates


This half-day gathering will create a space for youth workers, case managers, educators, and advocates to share strategies for supporting students experiencing homelessness and housing instability, transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) students, and students who are pregnant and/or parenting. The training is free—confirm your attendance by registering now.

The goals of this meeting include:
(1)  Learn about student rights, policies, and laws  
(2)  Share school and community-based resources and programs
(3)  Create a space for relationship building and networking
(4)  Discuss the challenges and barriers that students face navigating systems

8:30 AM: Registration & Coffee

8:45 AM-9:45 AM: McKinney-Vento Act Overview-Jennifer Fabbrini, CPS Students in Temporary Living Situations
Jennifer Fabbrini from STLS will provide a general overview of the educational rights of homeless students in Illinois and discuss the services provided by the CPS Students in Temporary Living Situations Program. 

10:00 AM-11:00 AM: Educators Panel-Student Outreach & Reengagement Centers (SOAR), Credit Recovery, Youth Connection Charter Schools, and Alternative Schools Network
Molly Burke, Senior Manager, Student Support and Engagement will facilitate a panel discussion on the various programs available within Chicago Public Schools for Students in High School and how each program can serve and benefit homeless youth.  

11:00 AM-12 PM: Community Programs and Advocacy Panel 
Lara Brooks will moderate a panel with guests from the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, Jenine Wehbeh from Illinois Safe Schools Alliance, Andrea Katz from Teen Living Programs, and Chicago homeless youth service providers about the challenges and opportunities that exist for supporting and advocating on behalf of students experiencing homelessness, pregnant and/or parenting students, and transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) students.
