Please join us as we host the Sixth Annual Justice Circle event of the Law Project of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless to announce the release of the Homeless Youth Handbook – Illinois, an accessible print and online resource to help reduce the impacts of homelessness on the state’s most vulnerable young people. The Justice Circle is comprised of members of the legal community who support the work of the Law Project of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, the only legal aid program in Illinois dedicated to serving those who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. This year's Justice Circle event celebrates the launch of the Illinois Homeless Youth Handbook.
The challenge of homeless youth in Illinois is significant. Illinois school districts identified 59,112 homeless students for the 2013-14 school year. But this is only school-aged youth we know of through the education system. Experts and advocates who work with these youth and young adults each day know there are many more less able to be identified but desperately in need of legal as well as other assistance.
The Homeless Youth Handbook – Illinois, is designed to help these young people, and the adults working with them, navigate the issues and options they may face on a daily basis to help put them on track to live healthy, happy and productive lives despite their current situations.
The Handbook was developed by The Law Project of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, United Airlines and the law firm of Baker & McKenzie. This first-of-its-kind resource provides a collection of valuable, practical legal information in a youth-friendly question and answer format across seventeen chapters covering everything from health care and housing to consumer and credit issues.
We hope you will join us for the launch of the Homeless Youth Handbook – Illinois to learn more about this important new resource. Advance copies of the Handbook and promotional posters will be provided to all attendees.
The online Handbook will be launched simultaneously at www.homelessyouth.org.
