Hi everyone:
If the Chicago Task Force on Homeless Youth continues, I would like to continue to be a part of the Education working group. If CTFHY is merged into the Continuum structure, than there probably won't be a place for any of the CTFHY working groups to function, particularly since the driving forces in the Continuum have always been HUD funding and providers of adult housing. In the Continuum structure, the number of youth providers allowed participatory votes will be limited to only 3 organizations. This structure will prohibit the full inclusion of all of Chicago's youth-serving organizations.
On May 29th, however, another working group of the CTFHY is scheduled from 9am-12pm. This working group is on Mental Healthcare. This is the first meeting of the Mental Healthcare working group and it seems unfortunately timed, given the likely fate of CTFHY. Due to the acute mental health needs we've been seeing in all of our low-threshold programs, I feel it is important that I go to the mental health group, even though this may ultimately be the only working group meeting ever held on the youth mental healthcare need.
