According to "How Hypothesis search works," you can "use quotes to encapsulate longer phrases." However, searching a phrase with quotation marks only searches for annotations that include all of the words in the quotes, in any order and in any place (even if they are discontinuous). This is a problem if the words in the phrase are common and it is only the phrase itself that is distinctive. Is there any way to actually search the phrase?

Hi,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. A verbatim search is intended to return results that match the exact search terms and order entered by the user. For example, searching for 'foo bar' should only return results with 'foo bar' exactly as typed, not 'bar foo,' 'foo... bar,' or any variations.

However, it seems that the search query currently does not preserve the order of terms, leading to results that include variations of the original search.

I’ve documented this issue and shared it with our development team for review. While I can’t provide a specific timeframe for resolution, it will be addressed based on their prioritization.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
Janrae
