Interior of a Red Cross hospital for soldiers, 1876, The Wellcome Collection
Friends,
If you haven't seen it, our
new issue,
SYMPTOMS, is out. It is perhaps the best issue we've ever put together.
Some of you have joined this list recently and some of you have been
with
Hypocrite Reader through thick and thin, but to all of you we say:
read it.
Next up: we are putting on a
panel discussion this Saturday at 4 PM Eastern time on the subject of
Doing Politics in/with Collective Bodies, with our writers
Marybeth Ruether-Wu,
Alexander Wells, and
Sandow Sinai. Friend of the magazine
Zoe Belinsky will be in the mix, with editor
Erica Eisen
moderating. We think it will be fruitful, fun, and contentious in a
comradely way. We want you to be there and be as rowdy as possible in
the chat. A livestream link will go out very soon.
This
issue was a lot of (mostly joyous) work, and we are exhausted and wrung
out and pleased, not without the standard admixture of dissatisfaction,
by the fact that we have helped bring into the world genuinely useful,
maybe even needful, writing. And we are grateful we got to do it. Thanks
to everyone who has donated to let us pay writers for their labor.
You
can still donate if you'd like. We will put it––we are putting it––to good use.
Yours very faithfully,
Hypocrite Reader
