Hi,

I was attempting to follow a tutorial on using Hypercities, and some
problems seem to have arose in the profile attached to this Gmail
account as a result. Whenever I attempt to look at an object I put on
the map, I get "reset" to a map view that does not include the object.
The number of objects and collections also sees incorrect.

There does not seem to be a place in Hypercities to disable accounts
or reset them. Would it be possible to reset or delete the account
attached to this email (kristina...@gmail.com) so that I can
start again? Would user deletion capability be a desired feature for
other users?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Sincerely,

Hi Kristina,

You're right--we don't really have a way to disable accounts. I don't think that would have an effect on the bug you're experiencing, though.

When you say you try to look at an object, what do you mean? Do you mean you're looking at it in the list mode, and then you click on the checkbox next to it? Does checking the checkbox change the view, or does it to something else?

Also, where does the number of objects seem incorrect? Is it in the collection list for one particular collection, or is it every collection?

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks. No, disabling the account may or may not affect the bug I'm experiencing, but if the buggy item was tied to the account, I was hoping it might delete it!

The problem is in "My Collections." If I look at the entire globe, I have 2/2, one under "Testing Collection" and one other item (probably owned by both) called "Yanaka Reien." If I click on the checkbox for the separate item Yanaka Reien, I get bounced to a North America map view, and then I'm informed that I have no items visible in that view. This occurs across platforms, so it seems to be a bug in the data for the Yanaka Reien item.

When I was creating the items during the test class, I had the map bounce around a lot and windows close (or new items being dropped onto the map) without saving or my own input. I'm not sure if that was the computer (Mac OSX 10.6.8, using Firefox 3.6.13 on an Intel iMac) or the software itself. But it does seem like the bouncing around the map view, and having layers disappear and reappear during the item creation process, affected the metadata somehow.

I hope that this information helps with the debugging! I'm sorry about being vague in the initial post.

Hi Kristina,

If the map view does expand out far just before you click save, it will save with that map view, so it will open in the same place on all platforms. The odd thing is that the metadata for Yanaka Reien shows the viewport should be positioned somewhere in the center of the Atlantic Ocean. Is that correct? I have (25, -40) (lat, lon) as the center of the view for that object. The jumping may be because Firefox 3.6 is a fairly old browser. Have you tried a newer version?

Thanks,
Dave
