Even when zoomed out to see the entire globe, I still get the "No item
available in current view" message. None of my 4 rich objects are in
view, though then I click them in "book view" it jumps from rich
object to rich object correctly. Do you know why this may be
happening? My problem lies in the fact that I cannot alter the view
able because objects out of current view do not have the edit option...

Hi D,

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you--we're dealing with quite a few other issues on HyperCites now.

Anyway, my first question would be: is the timespan set correctly? It may have been set to a timespan in which your objects aren't visible. If that's the case, can you post the link to your collection here? The way to do that is to go into "book view" (we call that "narrative mode") and then copy and paste the URL from the location bar in your browser.

Thanks,
David

The timespan is not the issue. I've added more objects since and the
same issue arises. Now I am also not able to import images. Not even
jpeg images less than 100KB. The link to my objects is as follows
(http://hypercities.ats.ucla.edu/#collections/42019). I am able to
view the objects in book view, but again none of the objects are "in
view" and as a result uneditedable. This is problematic because
Hypercities has increased the text size and pulled spaced out between
words, even when I manually type the text in rather than paste it.
Thank you for taking time to address my problems especially when you
have many others to deal with.
Thanks again,
David Rach

Hi David,

I'm looking at your objects, and I'm having one problem: since your collections are only in My Collections, I can't view them without going into narrative mode, so I can't see if they're not showing up when you browse to them using the map. Can you move one of your collections, one that's having problems, into Public Collections so I can view it normally? Please let me know if you'd like instructions on how to do this.

The text size is actually a separate issue, one we know about. If you compose your text in Word and then copy-paste it into HyperCities, Word inserts a bunch of extra formatting that looks bad, and the text gets distorted--too large, like you see. Instead, we suggest you copy-paste it into Notepad or TextWrangler first, then copy-paste that into HyperCities. That will remove the formatting. Then you can do the formatting in HyperCities itself.

Thanks,
David

That's great to know about the text formatting. It will save me a lot
of time in the future. As far as adding my missing objects to a public
collection, is there a way to do this without being in edit mode? As I
said earlier, I'm not able to edit items because they aren't viewable.
I created new objects and haven't had issues yet.
Thanks,
D

Hi David,

Actually, just add the collection to public collections. Even if there aren't any objects showing up inside it, does the collection still show up in the list?

Thanks,
David

No, the collection itself will not show up in the list either, I'm
guessing because none of the objects are showing up. I was able to
successfully recreate the objects I intended and still have not had
any more issues. I appreciate you working with me to address my
problems. With the initiative of your support I look forward to
Hypercities as a bug-free environment in the near future.
Best,
David R
