Dear David/Eric,
I have been trying to get the HC site to allow for a link to an
external website, but to no avail, even after your recommendation to
try it again following your message to me about the bug fix to the
code. Kindly advise -- is there a particularly procedure you would
like me to follow? So far I have tried a few different things, like
simply copying and pasting a web url into the pop-up window that I get
when I click on the "chain" link icon in the HC object editor; I've
tried typing text into the editor, highlighting a word like "click
here" in the sentence and linking this text to the url in the editor
using that same icon...nothing works, so I am very open to your
suggestions.
Thanks much!
John

Hi John,

I just tried this, and it seems to be working for me. Here's what I did:

1. Highlight text which will become the link.
2. Click the chain icon.
3. Put in the link.
4. Hit ok.

Did you try this? And did that not work?

Hello,
I have tried again and the method fails every time.
I also note in trying again that when I go back into editor mode, and
then highlight my already highlighted text and click the chain icon,
it is blank, and has not "saved" the web address that I had previously
copied and pasted into that window. Is this a clue that the website
isn't getting "stored" properly in the media object, hence leading to
the lack of functinoality? As with other HC features, this one appears
to work on your end and not on ours. I need to solve this, not least
for my teaching, but also because of the keynote address on HC that I
am delivering to the entire university community at our teaching and
technology conference on Friday, March 25th. I want very, very much to
solve all these elementary problems so I can work with my students and
so I can help promote this website. Right now, all these difficulties
are crippling my students' and my ability to work on the site.
Maybe a phone call Friday when I don't teach could help us go step by
step through things that appear to work on your end but resolutely
refuse to work on my end and my students' end...
In appreciation,
John Maciuika

Hi John,

Very strange. Todd's been having the same problem too. I'm not able to debug this today, since I'm working from home and don't have access to a Windows machine, but I'll have Todd show me the problem tomorrow when we meet, and get back to you about that then.

Thanks,
David
