Opening-up HYPERCAT alliance board?

Good Morning All, 

This email is intended with the greatest of respect, and as HyperCAT moves into the Cityverve stage we have been questioned on a couple of points. 

Is there any intentions to expand the current board of directors to include a broader spectrum of industry, academia and institutions? 

As highlighted within the consortium previously and in the interest of removing any perceived barriers which will ensure HyperCAT is fully accepted as an open standard and without any limiting factors. 

Thank you Justin for the great work.  Without question you have been possessed a fanatical fervour to ensure the success of HyperCAT. 

I would be grateful if we could open a discussion to this question. I fully support Justin as leading this, and  propose included maybe 12 other board directors.  


Just to be clear I have no intention of volunteering, however I do have an interest in Hypercats success as our technology is based entirely on the specification.

I think a discussion for opening the governing body of HyperCat too.

 

We have had a bit of feedback recently that hypercat does not look nutural. It's has been suggested as it is a Ltd company, it needs to have a wider horizontal representation from the market.

I endorse all these sentiments! Except for the last one - if HyperCat is to have a broader steering group then it's essential for people to volunteer. So please reconsider whether you'd be able to get more involved.

They need not be directors but could be company members each holding a £1 share (for example).

It is a very interesting time now for Hypercat. 

As the IUK Hypercat for All comes to an end, we have handed the standards work we have done to BSI, in the form of the PAS.

However, this is just the start of the journey and I am working to establish a model which can sustain the ongoing development of an effective ecosystem focussed on interoperability through an extended partnership between BSI, W3C and the Hypercat Alliance.

With this evolution of the programme in mind, I agree that we should to extend the number of Directors. I have been advised that the entity needs a minimum of 6 to show true independent status. At this stage I believe we will have representation from BSI & W3C and have previously agree that the University of Surrey should have a place given their engagement to date as our lead academic partner. This would make 6. If anyone else would like to put themselves forward and say why they would be a good choice, I am very happy to discuss with Pilgrim and Merlin (current Directors).

I know you have taken a lot of advice on different company structures but here is my two penny worth.
I have just registered Smart Water Partnership as an LLP. It allows us to distribute revenue and assets in proportion which the members agreement defines. We can appoint any number of members, as individual and/or corporate, as long as we have at least 2 designated members. The plan is to recruit SMEs providing niche silo data-centric tech and integrate through HC and SWIM. We plan to share marketing, bid costs and subscription revenue.
However, I'm struggling to find a commercial operating model Agreement
Could a similar model could work for HyperCat. I would be happy to  support but don't have time to take on a leadership role.

Hello All,

I have had no feedback on this at all and there is a serious risk all our hard work will go south.

Can someone help me here find a resolution on how we can leverage HyperCAT.

Hello Bill,

I am currently out of the country, however I do have good news. BSI has agreed that they will fund a secretariat to further develop Hypercat next year. The team will need to deliver on a model that will be sustainable over the next 18 months. This will also involve new code of conduct and governance structure. It would be good to have you involved with this Bill.

More details to follow but it will ensure that we can continue to build on what we have been doing with full support.
