Hello

I just found your app today. As a android developer and a swtor
player. I'm impressed. Could you tell me more about the EULA and
remote desktop bit? You mention in your android pull note that you
did not make a remote desktop feature. I am a bit confused. Does the
eula specify that you can not play swtor remotely via a VNC connecton?

Not to be rude, but isn't your app a vnc subset tool?

As for the screenshot and swtor registered name, I am sorry to hear
about that. I know a big stink came up on the android developers list
about a guy who had a guide app for angry birds. He was in a similar
position as you. He had used the name but no resources from the
original. Where as there are others who used artwork. I see people
who use artwork in existing swtor apps and I know their future.

Tip of the hat to you. I wish you the best.

John

I wish I could edit these posts. Anyway, this is the bit I was
confused about:
>>>> We went out of our way to be good citizens for BioWare. We read the SWTOR EULA
>>>>> extensively and deliberately inhibited Companion Remote Desktop functionality
>>>>> so that it would be fully compatible with the EULA. All things considered, we
>>>> were quite possibly the most considerate and responsible developers in the SWTOR app ecosystem.

Hello,
All good questions!  The EULA does not call out remote desktop utilities, what it does call out as being forbidden are apps that macro, prevent the user from idling or provide any level of automation.

Our original implementation was going to ship with the 3 features I named above, we removed them to be compatible.  The EULA is quite broad and vague deliberately I imagine, most software that comes with a gaming keyboard or mouse technically breaks the macro section, but better to keep our noses clean we figured.

Thanks for stopping by and chatting, I hadn't heard about the angry birds story but am not surprised.

Hello Zack,

Ok so it sounds like you had a capability which could perform a
certain crewskill over and over but you did not include it. Very
good. I am curious how your code works and how you can be sure EA/
Bioware want disable an account. Is your app a specialized VNC like
app? Or do you install drivers on the pc side?

If BioWare really wanted to, they could write us out of the EULA and detect the server side piece and there's nothing we could do about that.  Well, I mean I am sure we could do an update race where we change the app signature and they try to find it, but no one wins there.

Our app doesn't give the swtor player any unfair advantages, all we can do is follow the EULA and hope for the best.  We really are not much different than windows remote desktop, splashtop etc, so one would think they'd have to ban them all if any.

We have a server side component running on the PC that we communicate with.
