My research group (thegraylab.org) in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Riverside is seeking a postdoctoral scholar on a 2-year funded project to investigate and develop standardized procedures for monitoring microplastics in California stormflow. Our Plastic Pollution Research Group will conduct this project in collaboration with the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project, Dr. Vamsi Ganti (UC Santa Barbara), and a number of additional microplastic pollution experts. The postdoctoral scholar with play a leading role in the investigation of microplastic transport in streamflow and the evaluation of monitoring techniques using both field monitoring and experimental (flume) approaches. The candidate will also be expected and supported in presenting and publishing the results of this research at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. We welcome candidates interested in getting involved in existing projects in the lab, as well as those interested in pursuing new directions within the plastic pollution field. The initial appointment is for two years with a preferred start date in late summer/early fall, 2023.
