We are recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to join our University of Vermont watershed research team. Our project focuses on identifying how changing winters, with increasingly common snowmelt, rain, and rain-on-snow events, impact the timing and magnitude of watershed nutrient export and alter critical source areas and flowpaths for water, nitrogen, and phosphorous across land uses (forested, agricultural, urban).

Qualifications

We seek a field-oriented postdoctoral researcher with expertise in nutrient biogeochemistry and catchment hydrology that is interested in studying how warm winter events cascade through watershed soils and into streams. Our research leverages three heavily instrumented watersheds in Vermont (forested, agricultural, and urban) and focuses on the pathways and processes that drive nutrient export, with emphasis on how export pathways and processes vary between winter events (thaws and rain on snow) and growing season events.

The candidate should have expertise and/or interests related to the processing and transport of nutrients or pollutants across riparian soil corridor through river networks. Elements of particular interest include phosphorus, nitrogen, and iron in both particulate and dissolved forms.

Experience working with in-situ sensors and statistical analyses for large environmental datasets is desirable but not required. The successful candidate will work with a research group of PIs, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students, with opportunities to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

With a somewhat flexible late summer to fall start date, this will be a 2-year position. Salary range: $56,500 to > $60,000 depending on experience (https://www.uvm.edu/human-resources/postdoctoral-associates-fellows-overview).

Please contact Andrew Schroth (Andrew....@uvm.edu) or Carol Adair (Carol...@uvm.edu) for more information.

To apply:  please send CV, contact information for three references, and a cover letter outlining research interests, expertise, and availability to Carol...@uvm.edu. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
