Dear colleague,

We are pleased to invite you to submit a contribution to our special issue “Monitoring coastal wetlands and the seashore with a multi-sensor approach” for the EGU journal Biogeosciences

Topic description:

Due to a transitional zone between marine and terrestrial systems, coastal wetlands and seashores are dynamic and highly vulnerable ecosystems. The multi-scale and cross-scale spatio-temporal dynamicity of such systems in terms of various biophysical fluxes are currently poorly understood. A multi-sensor approach, including various active and passive remote-sensing and in-situ sensor installations, can help in a continuous monitoring and a better understanding of these coastal ecosystems. A multi-sensor approach can account for long-term and cross-scale trends of the biophysical fluxes and their dynamics, providing a better understanding of how biotic and abiotic factors can influence such changes.

In this special issue, we encourage submissions that present innovative ways to implement multi-sensor approaches to monitor coastal wetlands and seashores, with particular interest for applications that integrate in-situ with proximal- and/or remote-sensing methods. Contributions including new modelling approaches for multi- and cross-scale data integration are also highly encouraged.

In case you are interested, please send us a title and a short abstract of the contribution in the next four weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact us in case you have doubts or questions.

Please note that the journal Biogeosciences is an open access journal and therefore, article processing charges (APC) are applicable. The price per each journal page is €77 net for LaTeX submissions using the Copernicus Publications LaTeX Package and €93 net for Word submissions using the Copernicus Publications Word Template. For details, checkhttps://www.biogeosciences.net/about/article_processing_charges.html. The journal also provides financial support for eligible manuscripts, please check details athttps://www.biogeosciences.net/about/financial_support.html.
