Are you interested in pursuing an applied research career as an Environmental Scientistwith the City of Austin? Are you passionate about environmental health, urban watersheds, and the quality-of-life outcomes that healthy creeks provide? The Watershed Protection Department has posted an environmental scientist position with the Applied Watershed Research Section. This group strives to improve watershed health in Austin primarily through monitoring, data analysis, and the identification, development and testing of solutions that help us understand and address the mechanisms that degrade our watersheds. Our preferred candidates will have skill/experience in these areas:
- Experience in urban lotic and lentic aquatic systems.
- Experience in riparian ecology and/or benthic macroinvertebrates and/or environmental social science.
- Experience with technical/scientific writing for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge and comfort with issues of equity, inclusion and diversity and how these dynamics affect the work environment and environmental justice.
- Regional knowledge of watershed issues and the geologic, climatic and anthropogenic stressors that influence them.
