Hello everyone,
This is very hard for me to write, I've been thinking about it for the last two days, but I know you are all very concerned about Gregg and would like an update on his health. Thank you all for everything kind thought and prayer you have given us over the last four days, we appreciate your support so much.
Gregg is very, very sick. He has had a stroke, his kidneys are failing, he has many blood clots in his blood stream, his brain is hemorrhaging and he has a very bad staph inffection in his blood. They don't know where the infections came from, except that they think that bacteria grew on his synthetic aortic valve and then broke off and traveled into his bloodstream. We as a family (parents, brother and kids) decided not to have him transported to Flagstaff or Tucson to have a neuro surgeon try to relieve the pressure on his brain, no one in the valley would take him because he is such a high risk. Moving him is also a very high risk, as is the surgery itself. It would take a miracle to have him pull out of this. So in the next day or two, his family and I will be making the decision to take him off his ventilator and his antibiotics and other IV fluids and meds and have him stay in the hospital with the help of hospice.
This has been so hard for me, it's all happened so fast and he was feeling fine until just two days before I took him to the emergency room at Mountain Vista. Even during those two days, we thought he was just dehydrated and were treating it as such, but that turned out not to be the case. I don't think getting him to the hospital a day or two sooner would have made any difference in the outcome.
I know it is hard for all of you as well, he's a great guy, very bright and well loved. John Bodenchuck and John & Diana Schneeman have been up to see him, we don't know if he can hear or understand anything, but I spend my time at the hospital talking to him and touching him as much as possible. I will miss him terribly. He is a wonderful husband and friend. Thank you all for your concern, please pitch in and help take care of the work at ADWR he will leave behind.

At about 7:00 tonight Gregg passed away. We will miss Gregg in so many ways, and are deeply saddened.
Jackie is making arrangments and will provide us with details soon.
