Dear colleagues,

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Water Quality/Hydrodynamic Modelling for a full-time fixed term position at the University of Galway, Ireland. This position is funded by the Interreg NPA, and is available from 1st of January 2024 to contract end date of 30th November 2025.

 

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be based at the University of Galway and contribute towards a recently awarded project in the field of circular and resource-efficient economy and water quality modelling. The project is aimed at to develop a resource efficient wastewater management model to reduce the water and environmental footprint of wastewater treatment and ensure sustainability and economic benefits establishing a circular economy base in wastewater management planning. In the multi-country collaboration, the successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team with colleagues in Civil Engineering at the University of Galway, to study different technologies for energy and resource recovery from wastewater, compare existing practices of discharging wastewater to surface waters and to model the effect of wastewater effluent of receiving waterbody. The researcher will also actively collaborate with project partners in Norway and the Faroe Islands and other international partners. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to further develop their careers in a highly dynamic and successful research group.

 

Essential requirements:

  • PhD in engineering, mathematics, physics, microbiology, or related area.
  • Demonstrated experience with numerical models (e.g.  hydrodynamic models, water quality models).
  • Demonstrated understanding of biogeochemical processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in English.
