Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to submit your abstract to the following EGU2024 session NP11.4:  Methods, tools and techniques for prediction of hydroclimatic events.

EGU General Assembly 2024 will be held in Vienna on 14-19 April 2024.

Extreme hydroclimatic events can result in substantial impacts on human societies and ecosystems. The proposed session is dedicated to exploring state of the art methods, tools and techniques for a prediction of hydroclimatic events such as floods, droughts, heat waves, extreme precipitation etc. The changes in mechanisms and severity of such events under current and future climate are also of paramount interest in this session.

Technologies and tools exist for producing and delivering assessments of hydroclimatic events, such as observational data, modelling outputs, and a range of modelling frameworks, yet these tools are not often integrated in assessment of hydroclimatic events.

This session welcomes multidisciplinary studies that aim to showcase innovation in modelling techniques and datasets for improved prediction of hydroclimatic events in a reliable and effective manner. In this context, researchers of various disciplines, including hydrology, meteorology, engineering, remote sensing, oceanography, geography, and earth science, are invited to explore advances in modelling techniques (i.e. numerical models, statistical models, machine learning models, artificial intelligence), and analysis of model prediction skill (e.g., uncertainty quantification, sensitivity analysis, data assimilation, multi-scale modeling) to showcase the transformative power of measurements combined with process-based/data-driven modelling tools in tackling a wide range of hydroclimatic issues.

The research under this theme aids our understanding of causes, mechanisms and impacts of hydroclimatic events. Such knowledge is necessary to address pressing challenges and to develop innovative solutions that can have a practical implementation in decision making and management.

The deadline for abstract submission is  10 January 2024, 13:00 CET.

For abstract submission, please go to https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU24/session/48269

We are looking forward to seeing you in Vienna!

Best regards,
