Hi. For the last 20 days I have been unable to send emails from my Windows 10 Live mail on my PC. The 'sent' emails are stuck in my Outbox folder, and the only thing working on that is 'delete'. I have tried to 'move to junk folder', but I get a 'blocked sender' popup. So I am blocked from sending from my own email account. I am the only one affected by this - the other Windows 10 Live mail accounts are working just fine.
I have tried turning off the Norton VPN - makes no difference. I have tried adding my own email address to the list of sites etc to be excepted from blocking - makes no difference. I don't know what else to try.
If you want to check if the firewall is interfering, right click on the Norton icon in the system tray and click on Disable Smart Firewall. Then test your email. If you still have the issue it is not the Norton firewall causing the issue. Be sure to turn the firewall on again after your test.
To reset the Norton firewall, from the main Norton Security screen click on Settings - Firewall. On the General tab, click on Reset beside Firewall Reset. Restart your computer. As you use programs that access your network/internet, the firewall rules will be created again.
I tried to install Outlook but it just does not install on my PC. I do have an Outlook email account - an insidious thing that is impossible to remove from your Microsoft account after setting it up. You can only delete the whole Microsoft account, thus losing other Microsoft aps that you might want and use.

I have been using windows live mail to get my btconnect emails for years now with no problems. However last week my computer did an update and now the mail program will not connect - it says an unknown error has accured.
I get that email account happily on a work computer using the full outlook version but I have loads of old mails i refer to on live mail via an old home computer for this mail address and would like to keep using this way instead of using the full outlook version.
Since Monday 15 April I have been unable to download either my Blueyonder email or my virginmedia.com email on my Windows 8.1 laptop using Windows Live Mail 2012. I can still download those email addresses using Windows Live Mail 2012 on my Windows 10 laptop, which is currently at 22H2. The settings on Windows Live Mail for both the Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 machine are identical.
Unable to send or receive messages for the Blueyonder.co (g.stickings) account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.
This has been going on for a couple of days on two or three threads. No action from the moderators for some reason. It's not only Live mail, it's outlook and Thunderbird. I wouldn't do anything like changing passwords or anything. They have obviously let the cleaner into the server cupboard! Hopefully this will be resolved like previously when we all had a similar problem.

Hey @Sticks Thanks for reaching out to us on the Virgin Media forums.
I'm so sorry to hear about the issues you are facing in relation to the email services.
Does the email in question work on any other devices that has Windows 8.1 version OS on there?
Or is it just the one device which is not working?
Kind regards,
Ilyas.
Hi Graham, you are correct I have a computer in the shed (Windows 7 Pro) running Thunderbird which has been fine from the start. I'll have to do some experimentation with the one in the house which has Windows Live Mail 2012 and Thunderbird on it. I'll get back to you if I find anything. Regards.
On windows 10, inside the the old Mail app I accidentally clicked the try new outlook toggle and ended up in the new outlook app. I tried it, it required adding of all my emails accounts again. Some I have already lost access due to lost of password but the old email was still accessible in the old Mail app. I tried to toggle it off to return to the old Mail App but after I clicked it, opening the old mail app still opens the new outlook. Now I essentially lost a bunch of my old emails.
I did the exact same thing and lost the same things. I searched the internet on how to revert back. That's why I am here. Some said to go to the view setting, and others to the help setting. None of them works for my version.
I was just testing out this new feature preview. But it was absolutely horrible. The default Mail for Windows used to hardly take a second to open. But this monstrousity takes a lot time to open. The supposed-to-be-user-friendly-ui is **bleep** so annoying and complex. And to add more touches of crap, there is no option to rollback to the old application.
When I did this, now when I open the mail it doesn't open the Microsoft Store, instead just nothing happens. So then I didn't have a single functional mail app. I could not find the office pre app in the Microsoft Store either, and installing all the Microsoft 365 apps did nothing.
Install and open the old outlook, and use the switch for the new outlook from there. It will install the new outlook app again. Then you will be able to toggle the switch off again (and give your feedback). Now when you open the old Windows Mail it will work like it used to.

I'm on Windows 10 but still use Windows Live Mail. I used to be able to click the "Email Link" icon on my Firefox toolbar to automatically mail the current URL to someone using Live Mail. I can go into Options>Applications>mailto and link it to xlmail.exe but I can't add the argument "/mailurl:%" to the end of the command line so that it properly constructs an email message. This used to work - does anybody have a suggestion (other than finally abandoning Live Mail or Firefox)?
Thanks jscher2000 - I almost used the form he linked to. Also I solved the problem I was having; it was not a Firefox problem but just a Windows setting that I didn't realize had gotten reset back to default. All is well now - thanks!
I guess when Windows updated it reset all my apps back to the defaults, which for email meant using Windows Mail. Unfortunately I've been using Live Mail since forever and have GBs of history that won't move across and, despite Microsoft no longer supporting it, it actually still works on Windows 10. If you're having the same problem, just go to the "Settings" app (type "settings" in the search window on the task bar) and choose "Default apps" from the menu on the left. Email should be the first one that shows up. Good luck!
I am using Windows Live Mail to download email to my sympatico.ca email account. Out of the blue, it stopped working last week. None of the settings were changed. Can't seem to receive email. Get the following message:
If it turns out there's no issues with Bell's email server, you'll need to sort out if Windows Live Mail is the problem. You could test this by using a different email client. I suggest downloading Thunderbird: -US/
It's a free, cross-platform email client. Installing and configuring is pretty easy. You'll be prompted for your Sympatico settings including your username and password. When you run it and you get a successful login to the Sympatico server, it's possible that something in Windows Live Mail is off.
Thanks for the valuable advice. I downloaded Thunderbird, and attempted to connect to Bell email, using the same server settings I had in Windows Live, which I should point out used the POP settings. No luck. When I configured the settings, using IMAP settings, I could connect. Happy about that, but now Windows Live is trying to download every email in every folder from about 2016! Anyway, I suspect that it all has to do with POP - perhaps the associated settings are no longer functional?
I did think that a server using the POP protocol was a little dated. POP and IMAP function differently. POP downloads all the email to your local drive, while IMAP keeps e-mail on the server. Only the email headers are being cached locally until you request the actual message (and even then it's still on the server).
