International House of Chicago was founded in 1932
through a gift from John D. Rockefeller, Jr. as a coeducational
residential and program center for students and scholars from
around the world. For over 82 years, International House public
programs have advanced cross-cultural understanding and promoted
opportunities for civic discourse on community, national and world
affairs, and have provided Chicago's citizens, universities,
cultural institutions and community groups meaningful engagement
with master artists, scholars and leading figures from the world
