VCE : VCE is a joint venture from VMware, CISCO and EMC.VCE developed new converged appliance called VBLOCK to support mainly SOFTWARE DEFINED DATACENTER concept.

SDDC : Software defined datacenter : SDDC nothing but kind of coludification of services. In our curren project, System Engineering team evaluating IAAS(Infrasturcture as a Service) concept with Vdirector and VBLOCK. I know you guys are purely unix centric, But this solution is suits for purely Windows or Linux with VMWare.

 

Usage in layman terms :  Infrastructure end user/team provided by Web URL /portal to build (VM )a machine in fully automated process.

VBLOCK has the following components in respective areas.

 

Network : CISCO Nexus Switches

Compute : CISCO UCS Balde chasis

DISK storage : VMAX or VNX.

Fiber               : Cisco  MDS Switches

Hypervisior    : VMware 5.0 or 5.1

Backups : Avamar GRID.

 

As per VCE Sales, VBLOCK is best product for small and medium business enterprise. Here good selling point from VCE is , if you buy this product, helps you downsize ur team to 20% including storage, backup and Vmvmware administrators.

In business terms, it helps to downsize your infrastructure operational cost and no hassle with different vendors fingering others.

 

Vdirector is software that helps to orchastraize all stake holder in Config/release management in ITIL.
