Hello everyone,

A couple of years ago, I had an idea for a game and went on to build
www.wikiaata.com
It's hosted on GAE(python) with front-end built on GWT. It's been a
while since I've done anything on the site as I got busy with some
other things.
However, I do have a lot of ideas on improving the site so I'm looking
for anyone who wants to hack up some GAE/GWT.

If any of you are interested, do checkout all the features that I have
already implemented (there's even a multi-player room with chat!) and
send me a message.

It's listed at following galleries too

http://appgallery.appspot.com/about_app?app_id=agphcHBnYWxsZXJ5chQLEgxBcHBsaWNhdGlvbnMYp94DDA
http://gwtgallery.appspot.com/about_app?app_id=18

Regards,
Indra

Thanks! :) you guys should try the multiplayer room too, thats more fun. :)

I got this idea while me and a friend were writing a fun program to find shortest path between wiki pages, about 2 years ago.. something like six degrees but for wiki articles.
On Googling a bit I soon found out that people were already playing the game in forums and called it 'wikipedia game'. However, there was no cool app for the game at that time so I started to build something that would be more helpful to play the game than a forum, and it became what is wikiaata. Now there are a couple of other cool sites that let you play the game.

Learn't a lot about GAE & GWT working on this :)

Indra

Indra,
so have your ever implemented algorithm to find shortest path between 2 wiki pages???? If yes, have you published any article on it??
let me know.

@Indraneel : Good game! Nice to play, and moreover it knocks on the brain a lot to connect the various things! Came across a bug, the path from Ghajini to Matrix is given as 3, however I reached it in 2 clicks itself. I was not given a clearance on the puzzle though! If the puzzle was manually constructed, its fine, the creator may have skipped some path. However, if it is a automated scenario, then there is some bug in the algo. Am attaching the screenshot of the case.

Moreover, I would suggest to set levels for each of the puzzles and ask the users in the increasing order of toughness, if he goes wrong, get back to an easier one and start over from there. (Something like GMAT questions).

Otherwise, its very much fun to play! Good work.

Hey Indra,

+Gazillion for the post and also for its replies. Just proved the effectiveness of a simple app and how few frameworks could help that reach it.

If you are serious about further committers for your app have it under a source control hosting environment (something like google code) and pass the readonly url around initially and throw few rfc(request for comment) and rfe(request for enhancement) to encourage few patches from those interested which you can later review and integrate and then once you are at comfort you can start giving them write permissions to your codebase.

Thanks,
Sachin

@Sujit: The length given is the solution when the puzzle was created so you can find a shorter one. No automated creation of puzzles, only manual so there can be some logic behind the puzzles. There is a rating mechanism and puzzles are ordered by it. A few filters etc. are also possible, more details at http://www.wikiaata.com/pages/wikiaata_help.html

@Markanday: Its a simple BFS

Hi, thanks a lot for the feedback. :)
I would prefer to collaborate with people nearby whom I can personally meet once in a while, and that's the reason for posting it here first instead of open sourcing the code.

Regards,
Indraneel
