I. Board Elections 4/13 9:00pm ICC 2nd FloorIt's that amazing time of year where the H*yas for Choice board turns over a new leaf and elects new board members. We have four elected board positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. These positions are only open to students who have been involved with the H*yas for Choice board for at least one semester.
Any student who is currently on the H*yas for Choice listserve is eligible to vote.
Candidate for President:
Alex Miller
My name is Alex Miller and I want to
be the the next President of H*yas for Choice. After being involved in
this organization for the past three years, I've seen which ventures
have been successful, and many which have not. I believe my experience
will be vital in planning and executing events and recruiting new
members. Next year, I want to focus our efforts on leadership and
membership recruitment and involvement, staging events with other campus
organizations, reaching out to alumni for support, and working with
numerous pro-choice DC organizations for events and activism. I believe
these four areas of focus will increase membership and strengthen ties
both on and off campus for the future. My experience will be key to
leading our organization next year, especially the skills I gained as
Treasurer, which I hope will insure a smooth transition for new e-board
members. HFC will be my top priority, and no one will work harder on
your behalf or with as much dedication as I will. I sincerely appreciate
and want your vote for President of H*yas for Choice. Please feel
free to contact me with any questions or concerns at alexandra...@gmail.com or
717-903-9302.
Candidate for
Vice President:
Anna Zvagelskaya
I joined the board of H*yas for Choice at the very beginning
of my freshman year and was a dedicated member through the end of my
sophomore year. I am spending my junior year abroad at Sciences Po
Paris, but am really looking forward to rejoining HFC as soon as I’m
back on campus. When I first joined the organization, I assisted the
older members with everything from condom distribution to planning our
annual Choice Week. Eventually I became the point person responsible for
condom distribution to the entire campus. I have also held several
internships in which I organized fund raisers and various other outreach
events for pro-choice political organizations, which I believe has
prepared me really well for the VP position. HFC has really been my main
extracurricular involvement at Georgetown and I will definitely make it
my top priority next year.
Candidates
for Treasurer:
Brad Crist
My name is Brad Crist, and I'd like to run for treasurer
because I'm committed to the goals of HFC to provide access to
contraceptives and reproductive health information on campus. With HFC's
limited finances I think we can do "more with less." I'm willing to
explore creative fundraising, such as holding a dance party for charity
or appealing to Planned Parenthood and others for donations. For two
years, I have been a condom representative and occasional tabler. This
year I was one of the "DC Outreach Coordinators," and I'm looking to get
more involved next year! Thanks for voting!
Morgan McDaniel
My name is Morgan McDaniel and I'm running for Treasurer of
H*yas for Choice. I'm extremely organized and pay great attention to
detail, and I have had experience carrying out the duties the HFC
treasurer is responsible for, from acting as treasurer for other
Georgetown student groups to organizing somewhat less-than-legal (but
successful) fundraisers that get around school bureaucracy. I joined
the HFC board in the first semester of my freshman year as Co-Events
coordinator and in that position I've helped to coordinate and publicize
events throughout the year as well as Choice Week events. One of my
duties as treasurer would be to be responsible for condom distribution,
and especially after the negative reactions to HFC after Plan A, I would
work to expand and publicize condom distribution to reach more people
where it it is needed.
Candidate for Secretary:
Amanda Lanzillo
I'm Amanda Lanzillo, and I
think I'd be an awesome secretary because I am deeply committed to
promoting the well-being of HFC among the board, membership and general
Georgetown population. I think that I can help HFC stay organized, and
would commit myself to ensuring that the entire club was well-informed
and connected. I've demonstrated my commitment to HFC as the freshman
outreach coordinator this year and through my consistent presence and
involvement in board and general membership activities.I worked with
other board members to ensure that events drew a broad group of
Georgetown students, and that the wider population was aware of our
activities. As secretary, I hope to become even more involved in the
important outreach activities of HFC and the broader DC Choice
community. HFC has given me a wonderful opportunity to connect with
like-minded students and understand the needs and issues of Choice in
the Washington area. As such, I would embrace the opportunity to
continue encouraging the growth and development of the activity, and
believe I would be very effective in doing so as secretary! Vote for me!
II. Tabler needed for the month of April-Mondays 10:30-11:30
We have a desperate need for a tabler on Mondays from 10:30-11:30. If you're available on Mondays to come hang out in Red Square from 10:30-11:30 for the rest of the semester, email Rachel (rc...@georgetown.edu).
