Dear PCS Members,

HXPCS will be open for normal school activities on Sunday, 03Nov2013.  Please be aware that the day light saving time ends this Sunday.  

Following are the highlights for this week (Week 9).

1)    Parent/Teacher Conference
We will have our parent/teacher conference this week.  The conference will be held in the Upper Dining Hall, 2:20 – 3:05pm for classes not in session in the 2nd period; and 3:20 – 4:05pm for classes not in session in the 3rd period.  If you receive an email from your child’s teacher indicating a different location, please follow the teacher’s instruction.

To make the parent/teacher conference to run smoothly, I would like to request parents to give priority to the teachers for the tables in the Upper Dining Hall.

2)    Visitors from the Renmin University of China
PCS will host visitors from the Renmin University of China this week.  此次来访一共有8人，中国人民大学常务副校长冯惠铃女士带队. The main purposes of this visit are the following.
•    了解中文传播的途径和影响力
•    了解在美国出生的中国孩子学习中文的情况以及美国本土学生如何学习以及了解中文
•    如果有可能，了解美国家庭对孩子的教育情况

A tentative agenda is provided below.  You are all welcome to participate in the overview and open discussion sessions.

1:15pm        Arrival at PCS, Weihong Liu (Board chair) & Rennan Pan (Principal) to greet
1:30 - 1:50pm    Overview of HXPCS - Rennan/Weihong, Room 227
1:55 - 2:15pm    Observation of classes (divided into 3 sub-groups)
2:15 - 2:25pm    Break
2:25 - 2:45pm    Observation of classes ( 3 sub-groups)
2:45 - 3:00pm    Tour of HXPCS (Li Wen/Luo Feng), meet in the main hallway
3:00 - 4:00pm    Open discussion (feedback to PCS, meeting with parents), Upper Dining Hall
4:00pm        Departure

3)    Class Parent Representative Task Force at HXPCS
As announced in PCS Weekly 27Oct2013, HXPCS is forming a Class Parent Representative Task Force.  At the parent/teacher conference this week, your child’s teacher will ask for a volunteer to be the class parent representative.  Please help the teacher and your child by volunteering, and to further enhance the quality of Chinese teaching in your child’s class.

4)    Free one-time trial class on this week, 03Nov2013
PCS offers a free one-time trial class this Sunday, 03Nov2013, 4:15 – 5:00pm in the Gym.  The class will be instructed by Teacher Du.  Class description is provided below.  Your child(ren) are all welcome to take the trial class.  These classes may be offered in the coming years.

少儿舞蹈班 (free trial class on 03Nov2013, 4:15-5:00pm in the Gym)
教学内容：1：芭蕾基本功训练，分为地面、把上、把下三部分。主要包括身位、方位、软开，控制、技巧训练。2：舞蹈，本学期计划教授一支民族舞及一支少儿舞。根据学生的学习能力，如可能再教授一支少儿集体舞剧目。为以后的演出打下良好的基础。
敎学目地：基本功训练塑造孩子们的优美体态，使身形与气质方面得到提升。舞蹈表演训练孩子的身体协调性、舞台表现力、音乐节奏感以及通过舞蹈对中华文化的了解。
教学要求：基本功训练要求动作务必规范，以免不规范的训练使身材走样、身体受伤。舞蹈表演要求学生充份发挥想像力。

As a reminder, the free classes of Senior English and Adult Chinese are offered as a service to our community.  The following free classes are open to everyone who is interested. No registration is required for these classes.

6)    NJ Open Chinese Chess
由新州象棋协会主办的2013年知宇杯新州象棋公開赛，于11月3日1:00pm 开赛。希望象棋爱好者踊跃报名参赛。每年秋季举办的新州象棋公開赛, 是美国东岸地区的最高水平的赛事之一, 吸引了美东各路好手参赛。其中代表美东地区最高实力的纽约象棋会，每次都派出最强选手参赛。参赛棋手有的曾获北美杯冠军，不少棋手具有大陸省市级水平。本届赛事是由胡知宇律师楼赞助，在普林斯堡中文学校比赛。
