Michael,
Thanks for
your reply.
To have the Board
approve Administration team roster is a routine every year and stated clearly
in bylaw. All Advisory members have gone through it when they were the
Principals. If not, the copied advisory members can speak out. Approval process does involve all board members
and they are copied on the emails, we should be aware of the process, follow
the bylaw and respect different opinions. You release the weekly eNews.
However, the Board, the Administration and PC all share the school
communication channel for school newsletter and website subject to the Board’s
ultimate authority per bylaw. I don’t see any problems including all these people
in the e-mail.
When the
current Board Chair remaindered you to follow the bylaw, you should respect her
opinion, not ignore it. Melissa had kindly quoted in case you do not know it’s
in by-law. If you think the roster should be posted ASAP, you can send it to
board earlier and giving enough time for review and approval. Timely “communication is the key”. Why did not communicate before posting? Is it
hard to do so? Are you ignoring the Board
Chair reminder or ignoring the by-law? If “communicate is truly the key”, do
you think you have set up a good example for others? School ready or not depends
on many things. Publishing a team roaster does not necessary mean it’s ready.
During school team’s communication, anyone can speak
out as a team member or school member. Do you want board to have meeting on
every board member’s suggestion/reminder/opinion? By the same token, when you
make decision for not posting or any other matters in the future, will you
involve the whole admin team? Should the Board demand to receive the request
from all admin team members rather than you? Did you send this email on the
behalf of all Administration team members or just yourself?
The approval process is in by-law. Anyone can point it
out. Board is copied. Each board member has been working under and following
by-law during our terms, as well as other members. For example, Mrs. Chiwen Li urgently
needed marketing funds to start advertising. She checked with board if the
funds approved before she spent any money and the Board granted her wish.
Rules are created to follow not to break. Everyone can
say their doing are in the best interest of school. However, if it does not
obey the rules, it will eventually hurt school and member’s interest. If
everyone breaks the rule here and there, today and tomorrow, I don’t know how
the school will stay healthy and grow peacefully.
