Lijie,

I suggest you hold on to the eNews for the following reasons:

1) Michael Sun will be the Principal for 2014-2015. Per bylaw 6.01.2, all school officers, except the Financial Director, are appointed by the Principal upon the approval by the Board of Directors. This step has not been done. I don't believe the Board had a meeting to approve the officers so you really can not publish the list right now.

2) Ying Zhou and Zhong Chen as Board Members for 2014-2015 has not been finalized so you should not exclude them from the Board currently until the Board discuss and finalize it. I have mentioned during the 6/15 Board meeting that this issue will be tabled for discussion after August 1. Currently, the Board had a tied vote. We can not just ignore it and swept it under the rug.

3) School members are still questioning your member status as Board of Director. Per bylaw 4.01.1, ...Students must register for at least one class each semester and non- adult students must register for at least one language class each semester. Since your daughter only registered for SAT Math class last year and didn't register any language classes. Technically, you were not school voting members at the time of election. Maybe the Election Committee and the current Board should discuss and settle this issue. I have sent a question to the Election Committee Chair and has not received any answers.

By saying that, we just want to make sure everyone follows the bylaw. There will be more Board Members with students who don't register language classes next year. Will they still be members? Can they still stay in the Board? We should discuss, reach agreement and ensure we are not violating the bylaw. I would suggest the Advisory Committee, the current school Board and the Election Committee discuss this issue and resolve it to our satisfaction.

Please take my points seriously. Everything we do, we should follow the rules. 没有规矩,不成方圆。If everyone just create rules or bend rules to their own like, the school will get into trouble. This email was meant for the leadership teams only.

The new Board and new Principal will not be in effect until 8/1/2014.

Thank you,
Melissa Zheng
Board Chair of 2013-2014

Lijie,

You are not the Board. The team roster should be approved by the Board of Directors before it is published per school bylaw.

Your membership status should be discussed and verified before you can be the Board Member or Board Chair.

Thanks,
Melissa

I saw today's e-news published the 2014-15 team roster. Why did we rush publishing unapproved, incomplete roster??? and after the feedback given by Melissa in review that we should not post.

是啊,连八月一日也等不及了,抛开BYLAW,藐视不尊重现任董事会,给人一种迫不及待要把生米做成熟饭的感觉。

There are many things happened recently seriously violated our school bylaw. I am just going to list a few here:

1) Lijie Cheng's membership status is questionable at the time of election per bylaw 4.01.1. She needs to present official evidence of registration date, payment date and check clearance date to prove she is a legitimate school member for the school year of 2013-2014.

2) Per bylaw 6.01.2 All school officers...are appointed by the Principal upon the approval by the Board of Directors. After I pointed it out about the proper procedures, my advice was ignored and the unapproved team roster is published on Thursday to school public.

Thanks,
Melissa Zheng

Shengli,

Summer is here, and school is out. I wish you and everybody else enjoying it with your loved ones.  For the new Admin team, however, this is no time for respite.

Built upon successful marketing drives from the last year, we are thinking and planning for community outreach and recruitment activities for the summer. There is a lot of coordination yet to be done, and I want to thank everybody in advance for your contribution. I believe it is in the best interest of the school to publish the new team roaster as soon as possible. Any delay would make the school look unprepared and delay the transition and coordination.

Speaking of coordination, communication is the key to our continuing success. However, copying and pasting every email message to everyone you can think of is probably NOT the best strategy. Specifically, the new Admin team would ask to receive formal requests and communiques from the entire Board, instead of individual board members.

Cheers,
Michael

Michael,

Thanks for your reply.

To have the Board approve Administration team roster is a routine every year and stated clearly in bylaw. All Advisory members have gone through it when they were the Principals. If not, the copied advisory members can speak out.  Approval process does involve all board members and they are copied on the emails, we should be aware of the process, follow the bylaw and respect different opinions. You release the weekly eNews. However, the Board, the Administration and PC all share the school communication channel for school newsletter and website subject to the Board’s ultimate authority per bylaw. I don’t see any problems including all these people in the e-mail.

When the current Board Chair remaindered you to follow the bylaw, you should respect her opinion, not ignore it. Melissa had kindly quoted in case you do not know it’s in by-law. If you think the roster should be posted ASAP, you can send it to board earlier and giving enough time for review and approval. Timely “communication is the key”.  Why did not communicate before posting? Is it hard to do so?  Are you ignoring the Board Chair reminder or ignoring the by-law? If “communicate is truly the key”, do you think you have set up a good example for others? School ready or not depends on many things. Publishing a team roaster does not necessary mean it’s ready.

During school team’s communication, anyone can speak out as a team member or school member. Do you want board to have meeting on every board member’s suggestion/reminder/opinion? By the same token, when you make decision for not posting or any other matters in the future, will you involve the whole admin team? Should the Board demand to receive the request from all admin team members rather than you? Did you send this email on the behalf of all Administration team members or just yourself?

The approval process is in by-law. Anyone can point it out. Board is copied. Each board member has been working under and following by-law during our terms, as well as other members. For example, Mrs. Chiwen Li urgently needed marketing funds to start advertising. She checked with board if the funds approved before she spent any money and the Board granted her wish.

Rules are created to follow not to break. Everyone can say their doing are in the best interest of school. However, if it does not obey the rules, it will eventually hurt school and member’s interest. If everyone breaks the rule here and there, today and tomorrow, I don’t know how the school will stay healthy and grow peacefully.

Thanks,
Shengli
