We're looking for help picking an intuitive name for a new HXL attribute.

HXL already uses the datatype attributes +text for text, +num for numbers, and +pct for percentages (e.g. "#indicator+pct").

Question: What similar short word/abbreviation would you suggest for a column of true/false or yes/no or 1/0 style values?

Thanks, David

+yesno or +bool should work?

My phone did this. Darned autocorrect!

We're looking for help picking an intuitive name for a new HXL attribute.

HXL already uses the datatype attributes *+text* for text, *+num* for
numbers, and *+pct* for percentages (e.g. "#indicator+pct").

*Question: *What similar short word/abbreviation would you suggest for a
column of true/false or yes/no or 1/0 style values?

Thanks, David

Both should work indeed and I prefer +bool (or even +boolean - more i18n compliant and flavorless).

Cheers,

Etienne

I like +yesno for obviousness, though it might be confusing for users looking for the right attribute to use atop a column of true/false or 0/1values.   +boolean is probably the safest choice.

Thanks, everyone. We're not hearing as much dislike of +bool or +boolean as we'd feared, so that sounds promising. Elsewhere, in addition to +bool(ean) and +yesno, we've heard +logic, +bin(ary), and +true as suggestions so far.

+true is going to be a fairly boring column ;-)

I have no specific orthodoxy between +bool and +boolean ;)
IMHO +binary should be avoid since it's generally used for binary chunks
+true could be pretty confusing as it sounds more like a constant => if that path is preferred +truefalse would be more consistent

Thanks, Etienne. It sounds like +bool or +boolean is leading right now. I know that HXL users like Kashif Nadeem (CC'd) from IOM would prefer the shorter form when tagging hundreds of columns from DTM camp surveys—does anyone see any potential pitfalls in choosing +bool over +boolean?

Thanks, David. +bool is in the lead, I think.
