to HXL public mailing list
(Starting today, the HXL Working Group will be sharing a summary of its monthly meetings here on the community mailing list, to encourage feedback and discussion.)

General discussion
  • The attribute +bool will be part of the next HXL standard release, indicating that a column contains true/false, yes/no-style values (see previous discussion on this list).
  • We are discussing the idea of adding a +sensitive attribute, to indicate that the data in a column has privacy/protection/etc concerns and needs manual review before release. We would be interested in community feedback on this idea.
HXL priorities for 2018-19?

We brainstormed some focus areas for HXL in 2018-19. The following ideas came up, and we'd be interested in the communities thoughts on these (and any other areas you'd like to propose):
  • More datatype attributes (like +int, +date, +bool) to improve automated validation and processing.

  • HXL hashtags for geodata (GeoJSON, TopoJSON).

  • Detailed guidance for survey-style data (see proposal)

  • Look into using existing HXL data on HDX for vocabulary extraction and machine learning.
We'd love to hear from you.

Cheers, David
