UNC Water Microbiology Conference 2019: Online Registration

The registration for the 2019 UNC Water Microbiology Conference, which will take place in Chapel Hill, USA from May 14th through May 16th, 2019, is open. The conference, hosted by the Water Institute at UNC, creates a forum for researchers and practitioners focused on microbiology and public health issues to come together around the intersection of the two. The conference is a blend of interactive workshops with scientific symposia and poster socials focused on water microbiology from watershed to human exposure including current concerns in recreational waters, shellfish harvesting waters, emerging technologies and quantitative tools. Immediately preceding this year’s conference is a full-day workshop on Antimicrobial Resistance in a One Health World. Register here.

 

VERGNET HYDRO Odial Solutions Group - Mali: To supply more than 12,000 rural people with drinking water in the centre of armed conflicts

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced that it has awarded a supply and installation contract to the joint-venture composed of the companies Vergnet Hydro and SEEBA (Bamako, Mali) for the construction of drinking water supply systems for more than 12,000 rural people in the Region of Gao in the centre of armed conflicts in Mali. The project comprises the drilling of 22 boreholes, the rehabilitation of 5 boreholes, the setup of 3 solar-powered piped water supply systems, the construction of 17 standpipes and the installation of 24 manual pumps (HYDRO INDIA 60 and HPV100).

Potters for Peace Ceramic Water Filter Course, August 17 –28, 2019 at Adamah Clay Studios, Dodgeville, Wisconsin, USA

Potters for Peace, in partnership with the Centre for Affordable Water & Sanitation Technology (CAWST), is offering a two-week ceramic water filter course. By the end of the training participants will be able to demonstrate what is involved in high quality ceramic filter production and explain what is involved in starting and maintaining a successful filter factory. This course is designed to train and support existing factory owners, attract and guide new ceramic filter factory startups, promote collaboration and communication between members of the filter community, improve filter quality on a global scale, thus helping to reduce the global burden of diarrheal disease. New Certificate of Advanced Studies in WASH (Switzerland)

The Centre for Development and Cooperation SUPSI provides a course on Water Sanitation and Hygiene for humanitarian and developing contexts. This course is promoted by 3 Swiss Universities (SUPSI, Eawag and UNINE), it will begin in September 2019 (3 Modules of one week each). The course is designed to empower practitioners with an understanding of the fundamentals of the WASH sector, both in the humanitarian and development context. Fees: CHF 5,700 (including exams). Registration until 31. July, 2019

National HWTS Learning Exchange: Best practices and lessons learned on the implementation of HWTS- May 15th – 16th 2019, Bogotá, Colombia

This event organized by the Center for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, WaterAid and Acción Contra el Hambre will offer a space where different WASH stakeholders will be able to present, reflect and discuss on the progress achieved, challenges and lessons learned on the use of HWTS in Colombia. This event will additionally offer the opportunity for a technology market place where producers-distributers will have the opportunity to share their products with implementers and discuss on the need for setting up demand and product supply chains.
