Dear Toni ,

Thanks for sharing the information and an interesting document.

Since I worked very much on HWTS from 2000 till 2008 and also looking at household and school safe water, I would be very much interested to take part in the meeting happening today on UNC. However it seems that this does not include an online sharing, or I may have missed it ?  Not sure. Is there an online participation facilities for this discussion? Seems whole day but would be interested to listen to few of the sessions.

Thanks

Arinita

Dear colleagues,

This is to share some interesting information about few events that will take place this week around Household-level Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) and may be of your interest:

  1. The Cochrane Review on Water Quality Interventions to Prevent Diarrhoea (attached) was published this week! The Review summarizes 55 trials of different interventions to improve water quality and prevent diarrhea, most of which were conducted in low-or-middle-income countries. Please note that Tom Clasen will be presenting on these findings at the Water and Health Conference: Thursday, October 29, 2:15 – 3:15 pm, USA EST time (NY).

2.       Speaking of the conference, there will be a side event on the International Scheme to Evaluate HWTS (convened by WHO) on Tuesday, October 27, 8:30 – 10 am, USA EST time (NY). You can join for this session to learn more about results from Round I and moving forward into Round II, including the application of results to procurement and regulatory processes. For more information, see the attached agenda.

Additionally, the following information and request of feedback:

  1. CAWST is currently working on two HWTS-specific endeavours that would greatly benefit from the feedback and input of Network members:
    1. Online HWTS Knowledge Base (KB) – we have just launched the beta version of our HWTS KB – http://hwts.info – which we hope will be a reliable go-to for all things HWTS. We will be working over the coming months to expand it and improve content, features and functionality and would welcome any feedback you might have in that regard. Further, the KB has a number of spaces that allow for contribution – experiences with specific HWTS products, projects implementing HWTS, research on HWTS, and new HWTS products. If you have any questions, comments or feedback, please contact Laura MacDonald (lmacd...@cawst.org) or find her at the UNC Water and Health Conference next week.
    2. Update of CAWST’s Introduction to HWTS Workshop – This is one of our key workshops, and we are working to update, improve and expand its content. We’d love to know what you would like to see added – for example, more information on market-based approaches, monitoring, specific technologies or products, etc. Please contact Naomi Mahaffy (nmah...@cawst.org) with your feedback and input. The current version of the manual can be found here: http://resources.cawst.org/package/household-water-treatment-and-safe-storage-manual_en.

Thanks for your attention and participation.

Regards,

Toni
