Dear Neighbors and friends,

Have you been dreaming about planting new trees this fall? It's not too soon to start planning, and here are two not-to-be-missed events to help you out.

1. Learn about selecting the best species to plant in the urban landscape.
You are invited to join a free webinar brought to you by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) and the University of Tennessee Residential and Community Forestry Workgroup.

Topic:
Species Selection in the Southeastern United States: Lessons Learned from an Urban Forester
Speaker:
Kasey Krouse, Urban Forester, City of Knoxville
Date & Time:
Thursday, June 18, 2026, 11:00 AM CST / 12:00 PM EST
Description:
TN Urban Forestry Council and UT Residential and Community Forestry Workgroup webinar

2. Jump on the tree planting bandwagon now for fall with Root Nashville, Nashville's public-private campaign to plant 500,000 trees across Davidson County by 2050.
Get FREE TREES for yards, businesses, or other neighborhood green space. Tree ordering is open to any Nashville resident (here's looking at you, neighbors) until August 31, 2026. Browse this year’s available species in the online tree catalog (https://rootnashville.org/tree-catalog/), then order by filling out the form. Delivery* will be made to your Davidson County location at a later date to be announced during tree planting season (late fall/early winter).
Benefits:
  • Large and sturdy (~1” trunk diameter and 6-8 feet tall) upon delivery: This ensures a greater chance of survival– and gives you faster access to the benefits of mature trees.
  • Native (or naturalized) species: We offer tree species that are adapted to Middle Tennessee and are resilient to Nashville’s unique climate and weather conditions.
  • Locally grown in McMinnville, Tennessee: Sourcing from local nurseries lowers our carbon footprint and makes it easier for trees to adjust to their new homes.
  • Diverse: A selection of 7 species offers the opportunity to create a diverse urban canopy resistant to disease and pests. View the tree catalog for this season’s offerings.
*Planting assistance from the Cumberland River Compact (http://cumberlandrivercompact.org/) Field Team can be arranged for residents who are physically unable to plant a tree; see the FAQ
page (https://rootnashville.org/faq/) for more info.
Questions? Feel free to reach out to tree captain Lisa Wyatt here ( 615 306 9174) or email Root at he...@rootnashville.org.

Keeping it green,
Miriam
