Winter Storms: How You Can Help |
|
|
The impacts of ice, snow, and extreme cold continue to be felt throughout Middle Tennessee. Hundreds of thousands remain without power, while others are wondering where to start cleaning up.
It’s still too early to know the full extent of the damage and the needs our neighbors may have, but we wanted to share the first opportunities for those who are able to start serving others right away. (Looking for help? Resources are below.)
Start Local: Walk next door to check on neighbors who are older, have disabilities, or live with small children. If you have power, can you bring a warm meal or coffee to a family down the street who may have damage that is just on their property? Do you have a spare room to offer a friend a warm place to stay? If you have an equipped vehicle and a clear route, can you help someone with an urgent errand?
If you know everyone on your block has what they need, check local social media groups on Facebook and Next Door for more ways you can help. Partner Opportunities: Hands On and United Way are working with local Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOADs) and organizations across our region to support their efforts. Here are current needs, if you are able to help:
