Dear HWEN Neighbors,
You are cordially invited to the dedication of the new HWEN Arboretum this Friday, May 16, at 9:30 AM. The short but sweet dedication will take place on the campus of Eakin Elementary School, 2500 Fairfax Avenue. In case of rain, we will move under cover or inside.
The HWEN Arboretum encompasses an entire city block in our urban core neighborhood, including Eakin Elementary, Harris-Hillman School, the Martin Professional Development Center, and Fannie Mae Dees "Dragon" Park.
Following the brief dedication, which will include Eakin Elementary Student Council participation, all are welcomed to stay for light refreshments and a guided mini-tour of the arboretum, weather permitting.
The arboretum's Level Two certification, with over sixty distinct tree species, was awarded by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council in November 2024 and made possible by the generous support of many individual and organizational partners.
We hope you can join us in celebrating HWEN's new tree museum, library, and outdoor classroom, all rolled into one.
On behalf of the Hillsboro-West End Neighborhood,
