Customer Action: Make Sure Your Weatherhead & Meter Base are Not Damaged!
As NES lineworkers work around the clock to repair our distribution system, we want to ensure your home is ready for power the moment service is restored. Please take a moment to inspect your Weatherhead (Service Mast) and Meter Socket (Service Panel) for any signs of damage.
Because these components are customer-owned, NES crews cannot repair them. Customers are responsible for the "load side" of the service connectors, which includes the weatherhead, service mast and meter base. NES is responsible for the "source side," including the actual service lines.
If your equipment is damaged, we strongly recommend contacting a licensed electrician immediately. While repairs like reattaching a conduit or replacing a weatherhead do not require a release, more extensive work—such as replacing a conductor—requires a formal Electrical Release from state or county codes before we can reconnect you. A licensed professional will ensure all work meets safety standards and is properly coordinated with NES.
Please keep in mind that fixing your equipment does not guarantee an immediate restoration, as we must still complete repairs to the larger grid in your area. However, your home must be repaired before we arrive to ensure a seamless reconnection.
Understanding Electrical Releases & Repairs
To help you and your electrician move forward, please refer to the following guidelines regarding an Electrical Release:
A release is NOT required if you are:
- Replacing meter blocks.
- Replacing a meter base with the same amperage base, provided NO wire is being replaced.
- Replacing or reattaching conduit, or changing out a weatherhead.
- Changing out a hub.
- Reattaching a point of attachment.
- Replacing breakers.
A release IS required if you are:
- Installing a new service.
- Replacing a conductor with a new conductor (this includes any customer-owned conductor).
- Adding additional load, such as changing the panel size.
- Relocating a service or building a new service.
- If service has been de-energized for over one year.
If you or your electrician need to schedule a planned outage for these repairs, please notify NES Customer Service at (615) 736-6900 prior to performing the work.
