We are a little more than a month away from the yard sale!  As a reminder, it is Saturday, September 6, the Saturday after Labor Day weekend, from 8AM-2PM.  The FAQ are below.   If you’d be willing to plant a sign in your yard, let me know!  (You can do that even if you aren’t planning to participate in the yard sale itself; we want to get the word out as widely as possible.)

Here are a few frequently asked questions:

1.  Where will the yard sale take place? Your own yard!  Or, if you want, and they agree, a neighbor’s yard.  We’d love to have participation throughout the entire neighborhood, and the greater the participation, the greater the foot traffic..

2.  Do I need to sign up ahead of time to participate?  Nope.  You can decide the night before, or even the morning of. But, if you want a sign, or if you want to be sure your street is highlighted in any promotion, please do let me know at your earliest convenience (and by no later than Friday, August 29th).

3.  Should I nonetheless let you know if I plan to participate? Yes!  That will help us with any targeted promotion we might do, and is also an opportunity to get a sign. Just send me an email at colin....@mac.com.   

4.  How is the yard sale being promoted?  As with last year, we will plant signs all over the neighborhood the week before the yard sale. In addition, we will announce the yard sale on social media, and will try to find other free places to advertise.  We will also print a bunch of flyers to be posted in the neighborhood and around town. Please feel free to spread the word far and wide!

5.  Do I need to stay open the entire time (8-2)?  That is entirely up to you. It definitely pays to be open at 8, however — that is when the pros will arrive, if not earlier.

6.  Is this an excellent opportunity for my kids to sell lemonade, cookies, cake, etc.?  By all means, yes!

7.  You’ve mentioned signs a few times.  Can you tell me more?  We plan to plant a few dozen yard signs throughout the neighborhood.  Yard signs are probably the single best way to get the word out and our hope is to have them scattered throughout the neighborhood and all along the main routes (21st, Natchez, Blair, Woodlawn, etc.), as well as in the yards of participants.  If you are willing to let us put one in your yard, please let me know!  Just drop me a line at colin....@mac.com.

The Second Annual HWEN Yard Sale is just two saturdays away!  September 6, from 8am-2PM.  

Just a couple notes:

- You can decide at the very last minute to participate, but if you let me know this week, we can be sure your street is listed in our social media posts!

- Let me know if you are willing to put a sign in your yard.  This is especially helpful if you are on a corner or one of the main thoroughfares!

Hi all!

This is my final email about this Saturday’s yard sale!  By now, you should have seen signs going up, and we’ve posted notices various places online.  We have a few signs left so if you’d like one, drop me a line at my email below.  (I am especially interested in getting signs in yards along Natchez Trace.)

As a reminder, you can decide at the very last minute to participate!  

A couple additional tips:  You might want to have small bills on hand, in order to make change. If you have a venmo account, consider printing your QR code on a piece of paper for people to scan. And for pricing, the sticker system works great!

Hi everyone —

I know I promised no more emails, but here is one last yard sale note!

First, more than two dozen households are participating, on the following streets:  Bernard, Fairfax, Blair, Ashwood, Sunset, West Linden, Westwood, Woodlawn, Byron, and Chesterfield.  There may be more!  That’s just who let us know.  

Second, a few of you have asked about what to do if it rains.  Up to you!  I’ve only been in Nashville a few years, but have been here long enough to know that wait and see is the best approach.  Fingers crossed, any rain will stop by early-morning.

Hi all —

Well, the good news is we are getting some much needed rain!

Unfortunately, as of 845AM, it feels like the rain is settling in for a while, and today is just not a great day for either sellers or shoppers.  We will keep the signs up for another week and re-advertise online for next Saturday, September 13.

A few notes:  

- If you are set up, and getting customers, and having fun, great!  Keep at it.  If you aren’t yet set up, but might later, also great!   We aren’t “canceling” today’s event.

- If you expect to participate next weekend, please drop me a note with your address.  You do not need to do so, but that will help us ensure we feature your street in social media posts

- This is great news for those of you who couldn’t participate this week but can next! 

- If you have a sign and are definitely NOT going to participate next week, please let me know.  We might give it to someone who is going to join.  (But it is also ok if the sign stays in your yard; it helps to build buzz.  So don’t take it down if you haven’t heard from me!)

Hi all!

In case you did not see the update over the weekend, we have “extended” the HWEN yard sale to this weekend, Saturday, September 13, from 8-2!  All of the details are the same as before.

If you have a sign in your yard, please keep it posted, even if you don’t plan to participate!  It helps to build buzz!

I am posting the FAQ’s below.  I might have a couple more signs if you would like one.
