Have a Low Waste Thanksgiving
The National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) calls Thanksgiving one of the most wasteful times of year, with 200 million pounds of turkey wasted each year. That's a lot of uneaten food! Before getting everyone together on Thanksgiving, follow these low waste tips to help keep food out of the trash:
- Have guests RSVP to help plan your portions. Use Save the Food's the Guest-imator to help you figure out how much to cook.
- Save veggie scraps and bones to make broth. Compost whatever else you can't use.
- Have guests bring their own to-go containers and send them home with leftovers.
For more food waste saving tips, check out the NRDC’s article on Thanksgiving waste. |
